Government Meeting Explores Key Sectors: Digitization, Finance, Higher Education, and Commerce

ALGIERS- In a significant government meeting held on Thursday, Prime Minister Mr. Aïmene Benabderrahmane chaired discussions on various sectors, according to a press release from the Prime Minister’s office. The meeting shed light on the progress and developments in digitization, finance, higher education, and commerce, highlighting the government’s commitment to driving growth and innovation in these areas.

The digitization sector took center stage during the meeting as the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Digitization and Statistics presented a joint communication. Their presentation focused on the ongoing project to digitize the finance sector, with specific emphasis on tax, customs, and national domain services. The ministers discussed the advancements made in digitizing financial services, outlining the efforts made by the government to allocate necessary resources and implement the roadmap. Notably, the establishment of a permanent monitoring system to ensure timely completion of the first phase was highlighted. The introduction of digital platforms aimed at simplifying document processing, electronic payments, and online public services for citizens and professionals was also emphasized.

 

The Minister of Finance provided updates on the opening of the capital of public banks, emphasizing the significance of this initiative for the national economy. The move aligns with international changes in the banking sector and aims to enhance management efficiency, strengthen governance, and build investor confidence. Additionally, it seeks to revitalize the stock market and bolster its contribution to mobilizing savings and financing the economy.

 

Higher education also took the spotlight with the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research presenting a statement on the launch of new university courses in the field of green hydrogen. The government aims to establish a specialized training program through a thematic network, providing continuous education for workers in economic enterprises. Collaboration with foreign universities and the involvement of selected local universities and specialized colleges are key elements of this project, fostering knowledge exchange and expertise in the field of green hydrogen.

 

The Minister of Trade and Export Promotion addressed the progress of the creation of free zones, as specified by Law number 22-15 enacted on July 20, 2022. The presentation highlighted the government’s actions in implementing the approach outlined in the law, ensuring the establishment of free zones according to defined priorities. The minister also discussed measures recommended to overcome challenges and adapt the approach, citing successful regional and international experiences in this domain.

 

The government meeting demonstrated a strong commitment to advancing digitization, finance, higher education, and commerce. By leveraging technological advancements, improving financial systems, promoting specialized education, and implementing business-friendly policies, the government aims to foster economic growth and create a conducive environment for innovation and development in these key sectors.
