ALGIERS- The United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Algeria, Sharon Wardle, unveiled a new plan to eliminate customs duties on a range of Algerian products, including dates, olive oil, and tomatoes. This move is part of the UK’s Developing Countries Trading System (DCTS), which aims to promote the growth and diversification of Algeria’s exports to the UK.
Under the DCTS, Algeria will benefit from significant tariff reductions, allowing its products to become more competitive in the UK market. This new scheme will enable 92% of goods to be exported from Algeria to the UK duty-free, resulting in a savings of £1.2m in customs duty today and even more in the future as exports continue to grow and diversify.
During a press conference at the British Embassy, Ambassador Wardle emphasized the UK’s commitment to supporting Algerian companies through the Growth Gateway, a free support service designed to help them find buyers for their products and export them to the UK.
This initiative is a testament to the UK’s dedication to fostering strong trade relationships with developing countries like Algeria. By providing greater access to the UK market, the DCTS and Growth Gateway will help promote economic growth and prosperity in both countries.
