ALGIERS- Guglieemo Cantarelli, the CFO of Sociétà italiana per condotte d’acqua, made an exciting announcement during the 54th edition of the Algiers’ International Fair. The Italian company, which has been operating in Algeria for 40 years, revealed that they are currently working on a high-speed railway project that will connect Out Tlilat and Tlemcen, covering a distance of 130 km. This ambitious endeavor aims to achieve speeds of 220 km/hour and is expected to be operational by 2028.
Cantarelli shared that the project has made significant progress, with completion standing at an impressive 80%. The investment mobilized for this undertaking amounts to 1.5 billion euros, demonstrating the commitment and resources dedicated to its realization. The remaining 20% of the project involves the telecommunications aspect, which is crucial for ensuring a seamless and efficient operation of the high-speed railway system.
Additionally, Cantarelli disclosed another project undertaken by his company in Algeria. This venture involves the construction of a 30 km section of motorway between Berrouaghia and Médéa. Currently at the halfway mark of completion, this motorway project is progressing well and is expected to be delivered by the end of 2024.
Highlighting the importance of the company’s presence at the Algiers International Fair, Cantarelli emphasized the strong relations and friendship between Algeria and Italy. He stated that participating in such events is almost an obligation for his company, given the positive bilateral ties between the two nations. Cantarelli expressed his optimism regarding the future prospects of collaboration between Algiers and Rome, foreseeing better development and a fruitful partnership.
Looking ahead, the completion of the high-speed railway project in 2028 will mark a significant milestone in the transportation infrastructure of Algeria.
