ALGIERS- In my previous article, I explored Algeria’s consistent backing of the Palestinian cause and its people, emphasizing the enduring support Algerians have shown over time. Today, it’s crucial to acknowledge the endeavors and achievements of the Algerian El Baraka Association in assisting the Palestinian population, especially those in Gaza, over the last two decades. Despite facing various hurdles, this organization has quietly provided aid that even governments, entities, and prominent international organizations have struggled to deliver. Operating discreetly and without seeking attention, they have remained resolute in their dedication to philanthropic efforts and their responsibility to uphold our foremost cause, irrespective of the challenges they have faced.
Despite the relentless bombing, widespread destruction, and imposed blockade on humanitarian aid, the Algerian El Baraka Charity and Humanitarian Association has been steadfastly providing assistance since last October. They have collected various forms of donations and transported them into Gaza through their offices, including funds, medicines, food supplies, tents, blankets, and organizing collective Iftar and Suhoor meals, extending their support even to Al-Aqsa Mosque during Ramadan. Throughout the six-month aggression, they distributed over one and a half million food baskets and provided five and a half million hot meals. This humanitarian effort also encompassed approximately 100,000 meals since the commencement of the holy month, along with the provision of nearly twenty thousand tents and twelve shelters accommodating over five thousand people.
For more than two decades, the Algerian El Baraka Charity and Humanitarian Association has demonstrated unwavering dedication and generosity, providing over thirty infrastructure development projects in the Gaza Strip. These initiatives encompass the establishment of five hospitals, numerous high schools, schools, training centers, mosques, and the installation of fifty wells equipped with solar-powered water desalination systems. Their commitment extends to all seasons and occasions, particularly during Ramadan, where they distributed over twenty thousand food baskets filled with various essential items, served 130,000 hot breakfasts, and facilitated 150 sacrifices for each Eid al-Adha. Throughout the years, they have stood by the people of Gaza during their uprisings and wars, offering support to the West Bank, Jenin, and other Palestinian communities, including Al-Aqsa Mosque, through the distribution of thousands of aid parcels and collective Iftar meals.
Their dedication extended even further, as they procured and delivered 150 ambulances to Gaza before the war, and an additional 35 ambulances since the beginning of this year. Furthermore, they are in the final stages of collecting Zakat al-Fitr through their offices in Algeria, intending to transfer it to their Cairo branch and subsequently distribute it silently across all Palestinian territories. This continued support, devoid of publicity or self-promotion, echoes the ongoing efforts of the Algerian government, both overtly and covertly. It reflects a steadfast belief shared by official, public, and community sectors, boldly defying Israel’s oppressive policies towards an innocent people whom we pledge never to abandon, regardless of the circumstances.
In highlighting the efforts of the Algerian El Baraka Charity and Humanitarian Association, my intention is not to diminish their work but rather to commend and endorse it. I call for both official and public support for their endeavors, as they represent our collective values and act on behalf of our people. They work in tandem with our authorities to provide aid to our brothers and sisters in Gaza, overseeing its distribution and management on the ground. Despite facing restrictions and challenges, particularly in Gaza, and encountering resistance from detractors, they remain dedicated to their mission. Their members diligently oversee shelters in Gaza and Rafah, striving to alleviate the suffering of those in need. They do so not out of competition or self-interest, but out of a sincere desire to serve others and seek the pleasure of the Almighty Allah. It is incumbent upon us to rally behind them and respond to the Algerian people’s eagerness to support their fellow brothers and sisters in need.
