ALGIERS- The Minister of Religious Affairs and Wakfs, Youcef Belmahdi, revealed that more than 50 Algerian pilgrims lost their lives during the Hajj season in Mecca. The Minister made the announcement on Monday, confirming the death of an Algerian pilgrim who had been reported missing.
It is important to note that the first group of Algerian pilgrims had successfully completed their Hajj rituals for the year 2023/1444 Hegira and returned to Algeria on Sunday afternoon. These pilgrims were provided with all the necessary support and assistance by the relevant authorities responsible for ensuring their well-being and offering a warm reception upon their arrival at the Houari-Boumediene International Airport in Algiers.
The repatriation of the remaining pilgrims will continue, with flights scheduled to land at the Houari Boumediene International Airport and other airports across the wilayas designated for the transportation of the pilgrims.
Among the vast number of pilgrims from 160 countries, more than 42,000 Algerian hajjis embarked on this significant journey to fulfill their religious obligations. The Hajj is a deeply spiritual experience, symbolizing unity, devotion, and self-reflection for Muslims worldwide.
