Hamas Representative in Algeria Youssef Hamdan: Zionists’ Withdrawal from Khan Yunis Confirms Their Military, Strategic Failure in Imposing Control on Ground

Algiers, April 8, 2024 – Youssef Hamdan, the representative of the Palestinian Resistance Movement Hamas in Algeria, commented on the recent Zionist withdrawal from Khan Yunis after more than 50 days of military operations. Hamdan stated that the abrupt withdrawal signifies the failure of the Zionist occupation both militarily and strategically in imposing its desired reality on the ground.
In a statement to “Dzair Tube,” Hamdan explained, “The unexpected withdrawal of the occupation forces from Khan Yunis following the ambush in the Al-Zana area, which lured Zionist forces and inflicted significant losses upon them, is a clear indication of the occupation’s failure in accomplishing its objectives in Khan Yunis. The occupation failed to reach Hamas leaders or retrieve its captives, thereby preventing its intended invasion of Rafah.”
Hamdan emphasized that the occupier believed that by remaining in Khan Yunis, it could exert pressure on Hamas through its perceived control of the movement’s field command center. However, the resistance’s heroics in Khan Yunis and throughout the Gaza Strip revealed Hamas’s military capacity to reclaim areas where the occupation erroneously believed it had concluded operations swiftly.
Furthermore, Hamdan highlighted the proactive nature of the resistance’s operations, which continue to drain the occupation forces and disrupt their military plans. He noted that the resistance’s initiatives have made the scenario of the occupation’s presence in Gaza a nightmare for both political and military leaderships.
Regarding the timing of the withdrawal before the upcoming round of negotiations, Hamdan suggested that the occupier’s decision aimed to mitigate the potential success of any negotiation deal, which would necessitate the occupation’s withdrawal from Gaza. He affirmed that without the steadfastness of the Palestinian people and the blows inflicted by the resistance, aid would not have reached northern Gaza within two days despite the occupation’s reluctance. He added that the occupation’s forced withdrawal of its military units from Gaza occurred rapidly.
Hamdan expressed confidence in Hamas’s political maneuvering, equating it with the strength of its military command. He asserted, “The occupier has no choice but to accept a dignified deal that ends the aggression, allows for aid to enter, prompts the occupation’s withdrawal, and secures the release of our prisoners. Hamas negotiates from a position of strength, with its finger on the trigger and our soldiers in the field.”
