Algiers- Algeria, May 13, 2024 – Ibtissem Hamlaoui, President of the Algerian Red Crescent, received today Monday, Valerie Newsom Guarnieri, Deputy Executive Director of the World Food Programme, a United Nations agency.
Accompanied by a high-level delegation, including the Regional Director of the organization, the Regional Program Manager, and the Program Manager in Algeria, Guarnieri’s visit aimed to strengthen collaboration and support humanitarian efforts, particularly in the Sahrawi refugee camps.
The meeting, as stated by the Algerian Red Crescent, focused on discussing strategies to enhance humanitarian assistance in the refugee camps. It highlighted the importance of cooperation between the Algerian Red Crescent and the WFP in providing aid to vulnerable populations, especially those affected by conflict and displacement.
The meeting underscored the shared goal of enhancing humanitarian assistance and addressing the challenges faced by vulnerable populations in the Sahrawi refugee camps. It emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts and continued support from the international community to provide essential aid and improve the lives of those affected by displacement and conflict.
