Algiers, Algeria | July 1st, 2024 — Novo Nordisk has announced the appointment of Hamza Benharkat as its new General Manager for Algeria, effective from July 1. He succeeds Malika Derghal, who has successfully overseen all of Novo Nordisk’s operations in Algeria over the past four years. Derghal will now take on the role of Head of the Diabetes Portfolio for Southeast Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
Career Background and Contributions
Hamza Benharkat’s journey with Novo Nordisk began in 2008 when he joined the Algerian branch of the company. He later transitioned to Novo Nordisk Canada, where he held several strategic and financial planning roles, in addition to responsibilities in sales.
Over a span of seven years with Novo Nordisk Canada, Benharkat’s career trajectory saw him taking on significant administrative positions in Egypt, Algeria, and the United Arab Emirates. His extensive experience culminated in his role as Director of Finance and Operations at Novo Nordisk Algeria between 2020 and 2023. In this capacity, he played a pivotal role in fostering close collaboration between Novo Nordisk and relevant Algerian authorities. His efforts were instrumental in the initiation of the Novo Nordisk insulin pen manufacturing site in Boufarik, Blida Province.

Throughout his 16-year tenure at Novo Nordisk, Benharkat has received numerous awards and accolades, reflecting his dedication and impact within the company. He holds a degree from the National School of Administration, a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Orléans, and a Master’s degree in Strategic and Financial Management from a university in France.
