Algiers, Algeria | November 16th, 2024 — Morocco’s betrayal of the Arab world and its complicity with the Zionist Entity—first under King Hassan II and now under his son, King Mohammed VI—casts a long, dark shadow over the region’s history of resistance and solidarity. Far from being an isolated misstep, this treacherous alignment represents a deep-seated collaboration that has spanned decades, perpetuating divisions within the Arab world and aiding Zionist ambitions at the expense of the Palestinian cause.

The most damning chapter of this betrayal began in the aftermath of the 1967 Six-Day War, a pivotal moment in the Arab-Zionist conflict. Morocco, under Hassan II’s leadership, did not stand as a bastion of Arab unity. Instead, it actively facilitated Zionist espionage operations against Arab nations. Testimonies, aired on I24, provide irrefutable proof of Hassan II’s covert support for the Zionist Entity during the war. According to these revelations, Hassan II secretly supplied the criminal entity with classified recordings of closed-door meetings between Arab leaders in Casablanca, a move described by Meir Amit, then head of Mossad, as “one of the supreme glories of ‘Israeli’ intelligence.” This act of espionage not only betrayed the Arab leaders but directly contributed to the Arab defeat, leading to the catastrophic occupation of East El Quds, the Sinai Peninsula, and the Golan Heights by Zionist forces.

Yet, Hassan II’s collaboration was not a fleeting moment. It marked the beginning of a long-standing relationship between the Moroccan monarchy and the Zionist entity, one that has only deepened in recent years. The Moroccan king’s quiet diplomacy with Zionist leaders in the 1980s, notably the 1986 covert meeting with Zionist Prime Minister Shimon Peres, set the stage for more explicit cooperation. In the 1990s, Morocco formalized these ties, allowing the Zionist Entity to open a liaison office in Rabat and establishing reciprocal ties with the occupied territories. This clandestine collaboration continued unchecked by moral or political constraints, despite vehement opposition from the Arab League and widespread condemnation in the Muslim world.

In December 2020, under King Mohammed VI, Morocco officially normalized relations with the Zionist Entity in exchange for US recognition of Morocco’s controversial claims over Western Sahara—a deal that further cemented the monarchy’s betrayal of the Palestinian cause. Despite Morocco’s longstanding claim to represent the Palestinian issue as Chair of the El-Quds Committee, this normalization has served to deepen its ties with a regime actively involved in the occupation and oppression of Palestinians. This stark contradiction has not gone unnoticed by the Moroccan people, many of whom voiced their rejection of the deal, only to have their dissent suppressed through violent repression.

The normalization deal—far from facilitating any progress toward a just resolution for Palestine—has only served to strengthen the Zionist Entity’s hold in the region. Military, economic, and defense collaborations between Morocco and the Zionist entity have flourished, with shared projects including a “cyber Iron Dome” and mutual defense pacts. These actions not only undermine regional stability but also present a direct threat to Arab solidarity. Morocco’s embrace of the Zionist Entity, which includes joint military projects and defense cooperation, represents an alarming shift in the geopolitical landscape of the Arab world. This betrayal has directly harmed the prospects of Arab unity, with Morocco now aligned with forces that continue to oppress Palestine and destabilize the region.

While other Arab nations continue to resist normalization, Morocco’s actions reflect a troubling disregard for Arab unity and the broader struggle for Palestinian liberation. King Mohammed VI’s royal palace has not only betrayed the people of Palestine but has also helped fragment the Arab world by turning a blind eye to the shared aspirations of its people. The normalization agreements signed in 2020, accompanied by high-profile visits and expanding military cooperation, signify the definitive abandonment of Morocco’s role as a champion of Arab and Islamic solidarity.

Morocco’s increasing alignment with the Zionist Entity, coupled with its suppressive tactics against dissent within its own borders, illustrates a complete betrayal of its people and of the greater Arab cause. The monarchy’s actions serve as a reminder of how certain regimes are willing to sacrifice the interests of their own citizens for geopolitical and economic gains, forsaking the larger cause of Palestinian liberation.
