Hassani Cherif at El-Moudjahid Forum: A Call for National Unity, Sovereignty as Algeria Prepares for Crucial Elections

Algiers, Algeria | August 21st, 2024 — In an impassioned address at the El-Moudjahid Forum, Abdelaâli Hassani Cherif, the Movement of Society for Peace’s (MSP) presidential candidate, painted a vivid picture of Algeria’s current crossroads amidst growing global instability. Reiterating the inviolability of Algeria’s sovereignty, Cherif described it as a non-negotiable “red line.” He underscored the necessity of protecting Algeria’s national interests in a geopolitical climate where external pressures are intensifying. “Sovereignty is not a bargaining chip,” Cherif declared, warning that any compromise on this front would be detrimental to the country’s future.

On socio-economic matters, Cherif outlined an ambitious plan to address Algeria’s chronic unemployment problem. His proposal to transform unemployment allowances into professional integration grants could stimulate private sector hiring of young people, providing them with opportunities to meaningfully contribute to the economy. This initiative, he explained, is designed to reduce unemployment while boosting the nation’s workforce and economic output.

Beyond domestic reforms, Cherif envisions Algeria as an economic and social leader on the regional and international stages. His platform advocates for a firm stance in addressing border challenges and external threats, particularly from “Zionist and crusading campaigns.” His speech left no doubt that his commitment to strengthening Algeria’s defense and enhancing its geopolitical role would be a priority if elected.
