Health Crisis and Scandals Plague Lekjaa as Sadi Counters Moroccan Influence in CAF

ALGIERS- Fouzi Lekjaa, the president of the Moroccan Football Federation, finds himself in a critical health condition, reportedly admitted to the hospital twice due to complications arising from his deteriorating health, according to Dzair Tube Arabic, quoting reliable sources.

The situation unfolds amidst explosive scandals, with Lekjaa implicated in the “Sahara Escobar” case, currently under investigation in Morocco for his deep connections with an international drug trafficking network. This has led to his absence from the Moroccan delegation participating in the Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.

Lekjaa is facing a dual crisis, marked by the ethical scandal that surfaced concerning his romantic involvement with the journalist “Bouchra El-Daw,” who benefited financially from the president’s indiscretions. The leaked scandal has tarnished Lekjaa’s reputation and raised questions about the use of his position and the funds of the Moroccan Football Federation.

The Makhzen regime has long employed Lekjaa, utilizing both his influence and drug money to secure allegiances from various African football federations, attempting to exert control through various means.

Meanwhile, Algerian Football Federation President Walid Sadi has taken substantial measures to counter Moroccan influence within the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Sadi’s strategic approach, implemented since assuming the presidency of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF), aims to curtail Moroccan interference in the higher echelons of CAF.

Sadi’s proactive moves are causing considerable discomfort for the Makhzen regime, which perceives him as a disruptive force threatening its plans and diminishing its influence within the continental football union.
