Algiers, Algeria | February 14th, 2025 —High-ranking Syrian sources, as reported by Al Jazeera’s Paris bureau chief, have categorically refuted the malicious fabrications circulated by French and Moroccan propaganda outlets, most notably Radio Monte Carlo International. The baseless allegations, which falsely claim that Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf requested the extradition of 500 alleged Algerian and Sahrawi fighters from Syria, represent nothing short of a coordinated disinformation campaign aimed at destabilizing Algeria’s diplomatic advances and tarnishing its international reputation.
This nefarious attempt, engineered by Moroccan intelligence and amplified by French far-right media, seeks to sow discord between Algiers and Damascus at a time when both nations are witnessing a renewed phase of diplomatic engagement. The Moroccan regime, alarmed by Algeria’s growing regional influence and strategic alliances, has once again resorted to deceit and distortion, hoping to derail Algeria’s well-calibrated foreign policy objectives.
A Slanderous Assault on Algerian Diplomacy and National Security
The recent disinformation blitz is a calculated response to Algeria’s deepening diplomatic footprint in the Arab world. President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s decision to dispatch Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf to Syria signaled a landmark moment in Algerian-Syrian relations, reinforcing Algeria’s principled stance in support of Syrian sovereignty. The malicious reports falsely claiming Algeria’s involvement in Syria’s conflict are nothing but an underhanded maneuver by Morocco to strain bilateral ties between the two nations.
This smear campaign is not merely a diplomatic affront but a direct assault on Algeria’s national security apparatus. The attempt to associate Algeria with fabricated claims of foreign fighters aligns with a broader pattern of systematic attacks targeting Algerian military officials, including the recent slander against General Nacer, the director of internal security. By fabricating such outrageous allegations, Moroccan and French intelligence agencies aim to delegitimize Algeria’s security institutions and undermine its standing on the international stage.
The timing of this disinformation assault is revealing. It coincides with Algeria’s pivotal role in solidifying regional economic partnerships, most notably through the historic agreement for the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) with Nigeria and Niger. The successful realization of this project represents a strategic victory for Algeria, undercutting Morocco’s illusory attempts to promote its own impractical gas pipeline project with Nigeria.
Facing mounting isolation, the Moroccan regime has become increasingly desperate to divert attention from Algeria’s diplomatic and economic breakthroughs. By fabricating baseless accusations and disseminating falsehoods through its network of media allies, Morocco seeks to undermine Algeria’s credibility and obstruct its strategic objectives. However, the Moroccan leadership’s reliance on deception and distortion only serves to reinforce its own diminishing credibility on the international stage.
A Desperate and Failing Agenda
Morocco’s latest information warfare against Algeria underscores its growing frustration with Algeria’s strengthened global standing. From its unwavering support for Palestine and Western Sahara to its resurgence as a key diplomatic player in the Arab world, Algeria has consistently demonstrated a steadfast commitment to sovereignty, regional stability, and principled foreign policy. Morocco’s calculated attempt to drive a wedge between Algeria and Syria ultimately exposes its own insecurities and geopolitical failures.
Despite these insidious efforts, Algeria remains undeterred. The Algerian government, backed by its unwavering national security institutions and diplomatic corps, continues to consolidate its influence, dismissing hostile propaganda as the desperate last resort of a regime incapable of facing Algeria’s strategic ascent. The Moroccan-French disinformation campaign is yet another failed attempt to obstruct Algeria’s rightful place as a regional powerhouse, reaffirming that truth and resilience will always prevail over deceit and manipulation.
