ALGIERS- In an impassioned appeal, renowned Algerian historian and academic, Mohamed Lahcen Zghidi, has called on the Sahrawi people to shed their reliance on political negotiations and embrace armed action as the path to liberate themselves from the clutches of the Moroccan occupation. Zghidi’s resounding message was delivered to a captivated audience of Polisario Front executives at the annual summer university.
Addressing the gathering, Zghidi’s words echoed with the urgency of a historian who has meticulously studied the struggle for liberation across time and continents. “If the Sahrawi people heed the language of the gun, their cause is destined to triumph. Yet, if they continue to place their faith solely in the realm of politics, when will oppressed nations ever break free from the shackles of their oppressors?” he questioned passionately.
Drawing from his profound understanding of history, Professor Zghidi underscored the significance of embracing armed action as a tool of liberation. “One only needs to delve into the annals of history, from the dawn of humanity to the present day, to realize the power that lies in the hands of those who rise to defend their rights with courage and arms,” he proclaimed. His message resonates deeply with the centuries of struggles that have seen oppressed peoples triumph over adversity through determined resistance.
The Sahrawi people, long embroiled in a protracted conflict over the Western Sahara, have sought to assert their rights through diplomacy and negotiations for decades. However, Zghidi’ stirring call urges a strategic shift towards armed resistance, emphasizing that history has repeatedly shown that such actions can lead to the ultimate triumph of justice over oppression.
