Algiers, Algeria | October 28th, 2024 — President Abdelmadjid Tebboune arrived in Muscat on Monday for a state visit to the Sultanate of Oman, marking a significant moment in the longstanding ties between the two brotherly nations. Upon his arrival at Muscat International Airport, he was warmly welcomed by Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, symbolizing the deep-rooted friendship that characterizes Algeria-Oman relations.

This visit is integral to enhancing the bonds of fraternity, cooperation, and consultation between Algeria and Oman. Both countries are committed to renewing their partnership, which is anchored in mutual respect and a shared vision for strengthening bilateral ties. Their relationship is distinguished by a convergence of perspectives on various Arab, regional, and international issues, and President Tebboune’s visit aims to further solidify these connections.

A Renewed Brotherhood for Strategic Partnership

The state visit provides an important opportunity to fortify and promote the historical friendship and understanding uniting Algeria and Oman, aligning with the aspirations of their peoples. Discussions between President Tebboune and Sultan Haitham are expected to cover crucial regional and international topics, including the Palestinian question, while exploring avenues for deepening bilateral cooperation.

The agenda includes examining new priority areas for collaboration in various sectors, such as investment, energy, mining, food security, and Saharan agriculture. Furthermore, the leaders are set to explore the potential for joint projects across multiple domains, reflecting their commitment to advancing mutual interests.

High-Level Political Coordination

The longstanding tradition of political coordination between Algeria and Oman has recently intensified, characterized by reciprocal visits and ongoing contacts among officials from both nations. This dynamic interaction has facilitated a comprehensive evaluation of bilateral cooperation and the identification of ways to enhance collaboration across diverse sectors.

In May, President Tebboune sent a message to Sultan Haitham, conveying his fraternal greetings and best wishes for progress and development in Oman. This communication was delivered by Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf. Additionally, President Tebboune received a message from Oman’s Foreign Minister, Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, which included congratulations following Tebboune’s re-election for a second term.

The recent 8th session of the Algerian-Omani Joint Commission, held in June in Algiers, highlighted the convergence of views between the two countries in the face of various regional and international challenges. This gathering fostered dialogue among business representatives from both countries, identifying promising investment opportunities across sectors.

A Historic State Visit

Oman’s ambassador to Algeria, Saif Bin Nasser Bin Rashid Al-Badaai, emphasized in a statement to Oman News Agency that the two countries share deeply entrenched relations characterized by high-level political coordination. He described President Tebboune’s state visit as “historic,” aimed at enhancing bilateral relations and opening up broader prospects in line with the leaders’ commitment to promoting partnership.

As President Tebboune embarks on this visit, it underscores the commitment of both Algeria and Oman to foster a cooperative relationship that not only reflects their historical ties but also paves the way for future collaboration in various fields. The renewed focus on bilateral cooperation during this state visit signals a promising chapter in the Algeria-Oman partnership, rooted in mutual interests and shared aspirations for regional peace and development.
