Algiers, Algeria | June 21st, 2024 — Algeria’s housing policy under President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has achieved remarkable success, transforming the landscape with ambitious initiatives aimed at improving living conditions and boosting economic vitality across the nation.
Vision and Implementation
Since taking office in late 2019, President Tebboune has spearheaded an ambitious program to construct one million homes, addressing diverse housing needs through innovative approaches. This vision has translated into tangible outcomes, with thousands of homes being built and distributed annually.
Diverse Housing Options
The government’s proactive measures include a range of housing options tailored to different segments of the population:
– Assisted Promotional Housing (LPA),
– Public Promotional Housing (LPP),
– Free Promotional Housing (LPL),
– AADL rent-to-own ‘Purchasing’ formula.
These initiatives have not only expanded housing accessibility but also stimulated economic growth through increased construction activities.
Significant Achievements
The results speak volumes: Between 2020 and 2022, over 920,000 homes were distributed, alongside the completion of 2,200 public infrastructures and sports complexes. In 2023 alone, 313 additional public structures were finalized across various essential sectors, further enhancing community services and amenities.
Continued Momentum
In 2023, 330,647 housing units were delivered, bringing the total since 2020 to an impressive 1,250,647 units. The commitment to housing extends into 2024 with provisions in the finance law for 460,000 additional units, including a robust plan for rural housing and the launch of the AADL 3 program.
Development of Urban Centers
Beyond mere housing, the policy has spurred the creation of new urban poles and cities, such as Aïn Nahas, Bouinane, Hassi Messaoud, El Menia, Boughezoul, and Sidi Abdellah. These developments have not only provided homes but also attracted investments and promoted regional development, benefiting nearly 300,000 residents.
Social Commitment and Economic Impact
The integration of social facilities within urban developments, exemplified by projects like Haouche Errih in Blida with 10,000 fully equipped units, underscores the government’s commitment to social welfare and urban planning. The establishment of the National Housing Bank promises further support, ensuring sustainable growth in the housing sector.
Algeria’s housing policy under President Tebboune reflects a resolute commitment to improving citizens’ quality of life and fostering economic prosperity. By addressing critical housing needs and promoting urban development, the government has not only realized ambitious targets but also set a foundation for a more inclusive and sustainable future. Housing is now within reach, marking a significant milestone in Algeria’s journey towards socio-economic advancement.
