Human rights, freedom of expression: Western media, embassies with abhorrent selective empathy, double standards

ALGIERS- Embassies of some countries as well as foreign circles resorted to mainstream media to wage their dirty soft war against Algeria via deliberately providing false information that shapes attitudes and public opinion.

At the time when a French woman, 50, was arrested on March 24th, held in custody for questioning, faces criminal trial and 12,000 euros fine on charges of insulting President Emmanuel Macron after describing him as ‘filth’ in a Facebook post, foreign media are turning a blind eye to that event, while focusing on spreading propaganda on Ihsene El Kadi’s trial with the aim to portray the verdict pronounced against him by the Algerian justice as “unjust”.

Those foreign circles are trying to victimize him, defending what they describe as a “violation of human rights in Algeria”… the country that is deploying huge efforts to protect its national security from those agents serving ignominious circles haunted by their chronic hostility and profound rancor towards it, praise terrorism and promote terrorist organizations that threaten the stability. The question that arises, why are these « Pen of freedom » overlooking the overruns committed in France for instance? Is France above suspicion while Algeria is always questionable? Or, is it a policy of double standards!

There isn’t much room for doubt that these two events expose some foreign circles and Western media’s horrific double standards, hypocrisy, partiality, unprofessionalism, and non-respect for professional ethics, as they are blindly challenging the Algerian justice, on the one hand, and covering up the violations of human rights in France on the other hand.

With respect to the verdict, it was handed down based on compelling evidence on the defendant’s defense of a terrorist movement with nefarious agendas to sap Algeria’ security. According to the irrefutable evidence, Ihsane El Kadi received money from abroad and glorified the terrorist organization Rachad.

Faced with this abhorrent selective empathy and double standards that have unveiled deep-rooted undertones of injustice and bias in Western media, we are called upon to combat decades’ unchallenged western media imperialism and counter this wave of propaganda, misinformation and fake news aimed at potential polarizing public opinion against Algeria.
