Algiers- Algeria, May 13, 2024 – A significant delegation from Kenya’s energy sector embarked on a working visit to Algeria, aiming to glean insights from the Algerian model in hydrocarbons and energy.
According to a statement from Sonatrach, the state-owned group, the delegation, comprising officials from the Ministry of Energy and representatives from various Kenyan companies, arrived in Algeria on May 7th.
“The delegation toured various Sonatrach facilities across Algeria, including the headquarters of the general management, the marketing subsidiary, the oil institute, the research and development department, as well as an oil field in Hassi Messaoud and a gas field in Hassi R’mel. They then proceeded to Oran to visit the industrial hub of Arzew and the management academy. The visit concluded in Algiers with a tour of the headquarters of Naftal,” the statement outlined.
This visit aimed to provide Kenyan officials with insights from Algeria’s extensive experience in the hydrocarbons and energy sector, particularly regarding infrastructure development, management practices, and distribution systems. Algeria, being a key player in the global energy market, possesses valuable expertise and infrastructure that can serve as a model for countries seeking to enhance their energy sectors.
During their tour of Sonatrach facilities, the Kenyan delegation observed Algeria’s comprehensive oil and gas operations, encompassing exploration, production, refining, and distribution. Additionally, they visited academic and training institutions to understand Algeria’s strategies for developing skilled manpower in the energy sector.
