Algiers, Algeria, August 31, 2023 — In a remarkable display of prowess, the Sonatrach group has struck gold in the world of hydrocarbon exploration, securing ten groundbreaking discoveries during the first quarter of 2023. The unveiling of these triumphant findings was led by Rabie Badji, the Director of the exploration division of the National Hydrocarbons Company. These significant revelations come as a testament to Sonatrach’s relentless commitment to pushing the boundaries of energy exploration, with a focus on bolstering the production chain.

Addressing the nation on the National Radio platform, Rabie Badji illuminated the essence of these momentous discoveries, primarily clustered around operational installations. This strategic proximity to existing infrastructure positions Sonatrach to seamlessly integrate these discoveries into the production cycle. The expedited timeline owes its success to the outcomes of an impending audit, meticulously evaluating the profitability of these newfound resources.

“Anticipation heightens as we prepare to unveil the results to the world before the year’s culmination,” Rabie Badji announced with palpable excitement. Key to Sonatrach’s triumph lies in its operational cost efficiency, an attribute accentuated by Badji. For the Group, exploration expenditure remains exceptionally low, merely a fraction of the global industry standard. Remarkably, Sonatrach maintains an exploration cost of less than one dollar, an unparalleled contrast to some global majors grappling with costs that can escalate to eight dollars per unit.

Sonatrach’s annual strategy was further spotlighted, revealing a meticulous plan that included the drilling of a staggering 45 wells nationwide, all strategically driven by cutting-edge technologies. One standout approach is the integration of high-resolution 3D seismic methodology, enabling refined insights and propelling exploration endeavors to uncharted heights. Of the planned 45 wells, 23 have already been successfully drilled, and the remainder is poised for completion by the end of the latter half of the ongoing year.

Notably, Rabie Badji’s address also disclosed Sonatrach’s imminent pursuit of a theoretical analysis and data processing center. This innovative stride aims to bolster the company’s proficiency in rapidly managing the colossal influx of information associated with three-dimensional investigative and exploration missions. The acquisition of this center attests to Sonatrach’s unwavering dedication to harnessing cutting-edge technology to reinforce its position as a global leader in hydrocarbon exploration.

As Sonatrach embarks on a journey to unlock new energy reservoirs and drive national and global economic growth, the triumphant discoveries made in 2023’s opening quarter stand as a testament to the company’s visionary approach, technological prowess, and unwavering commitment to advancing Algeria’s energy landscape. With the promise of a prosperous energy future, Sonatrach’s groundbreaking achievements reverberate far beyond the confines of the industry, shaping the narrative of progress and innovation on a global scale.
