Algiers, Algeria | June 8th, 2024 — Filippo Colombo, President of the Maghreb Office at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, emphasized the significance of the “SoutH2 Corridor” project during a conference on energy and tourism in sustainable development in the Mediterranean basin held in Palermo, Italy.
The project, aimed at transporting green hydrogen produced in Algeria to Italy and Germany via Tunisia, symbolizes a partnership grounded in mutual interests within the Mattei Plan. This initiative underscores the collective endeavor to diversify energy resources for sustainability in the Mediterranean region.
Mr. Colombo highlighted the Mattei Plan’s commitment to addressing climate change and fostering renewable energy development in collaboration with partners from the southern shore of the Mediterranean, including Algeria and Tunisia. He underscored ongoing efforts to implement the strategy, including the launch of technical studies for the ambitious “SoutH2 Corridor” project.
The conference, organized by the Alliance of Mediterranean News Agencies (AMAN) as part of its 32nd General Assembly, emphasized the pivotal role of regional cooperation in tackling urgent environmental challenges. The envisioned partnership between Algeria, Italy, and other European nations through the “SoutH2 Corridor” project exemplifies a shared dedication to combatting climate change and advancing green energy solutions in the Mediterranean region.
