Algiers, Algeria | October 15th, 2024 — In a strategic move to modernize maritime communications, the Hyproc Shipping Company, a subsidiary of Sonatrach, signed a partnership contract on Tuesday with Algérie Télécom Satellite (ATS), a branch of Algérie Télécom. The agreement, finalized in the presence of Sonatrach’s CEO, Rachid Hachichi, focuses on providing satellite communication services to Hyproc’s fleet using advanced V-Sat technology.
The President and CEO of Hyproc, Adil Cherouati, highlighted during the contract-signing ceremony—held at the 12th edition of the Africa & Mediterranean Energy & Hydrogen Exhibition and Conference (NAPEC 2024)—that the deal will equip the company’s fleet of 11 vessels with high-speed communication services in maritime zones where conventional communication networks are unavailable. This will significantly enhance operational efficiency and communication reliability at sea.
Yassine Selahi, CEO of Algérie Télécom Satellite, emphasized that this contract marks a pivotal first step in marine satellite communications for ATS. He noted that the company has made substantial investments in recent years to enter this domain, reflecting its commitment to technological advancement.
The partnership aims to modernize Hyproc’s communication infrastructure aboard its hydrocarbon transport vessels, improving both communication quality and safety. The project will address Hyproc’s growing communication needs by providing high-speed internet coverage and a range of satellite communication services, according to a statement from Sonatrach.
This agreement represents a significant milestone in strengthening Hyproc’s maritime communication capabilities and underscores Sonatrach’s commitment to digital transformation. It also reflects the company’s broader strategy of promoting national integration by fostering partnerships between Algerian institutions, enhancing both operational efficiency and national collaboration.
