Algiers, Algeria | July 9th, 2024 — In a major boost to Algeria’s automotive industry, Hyundai has unveiled plans to establish a vehicle manufacturing plant in the country. The announcement was made on Monday in Algiers, where Hyundai officials outlined their commitment to implementing the project in accordance with the company’s global standards. The new facility will produce three models of passenger cars and two types of utility vehicles, as revealed in a communiqué from the Ministry of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production.
The project presentation was part of the Ministry’s broader policy to revitalize the automobile industry. On July 8, 2024, the Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, Mr. Ali Aoun, hosted a delegation of senior officials from Hyundai and the Omani Trading Establishment (OTE Group). The meeting aimed to discuss the specifics of Hyundai’s proposed vehicle manufacturing initiative in Algeria.
During the session, Tarek Mosaab, Hyundai’s official responsible for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, provided a detailed overview of the project. He highlighted that the initiative is in line with the Algerian government’s strategy to develop a robust automotive industry with a significant integration rate.
According to the communiqué, Hyundai representatives affirmed their commitment to establishing a factory that meets the company’s international standards. The project design includes the construction of a body assembly line and an automotive painting line from the outset. The factory will produce three models of Hyundai passenger cars, two types of utility vehicles, and potentially electric vehicles.
The selection of the site for the new plant is a critical step, and Minister Aoun emphasized the importance of expediting the registration process on the designated digital platform to ensure the timely realization of this project. This initiative represents a significant move towards enhancing Algeria’s industrial capabilities and expanding its automotive sector.
