Algeria Records Over 700 Investment Projects Amidst a Booming Business Climate
Algiers, Algeria | February 19th, 2025 — Algeria has recorded a substantial surge in investment activity since the beginning of 2025, with the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI) registering over 700 projects, including 11 involving foreign capital. Among these, a high-profile Omani-led initiative aims to establish a Hyundai automobile manufacturing plant, marking a major milestone in the country’s industrial expansion.
According to AAPI Director General Omar Rekkache, the agency has registered 743 investment projects as of February 15, with a declared total value exceeding 889 billion dinars. These projects, he stated, are set to generate approximately 21,900 jobs, reflecting a renewed confidence in Algeria’s investment landscape.
Rekkache emphasized that of the 11 foreign-linked projects, three are fully foreign-owned investments, while the remaining eight are joint ventures with Algerian partners. The Hyundai automobile manufacturing project, led by an Omani investor, is expected to formally launch soon, solidifying Algeria’s ambition to become a regional hub for automotive production.
Beyond the automotive sector, the government is advancing its industrial diversification strategy through the establishment of specialized industrial hubs. Plans are underway for:
- A leather industry cluster in Médéa
- A textile production hub in Relizane
- A school supplies manufacturing zone in Bordj Bou Arréridj
Rekkache attributed this positive investment momentum to Algeria’s evolving business environment, which has gained significant traction over the past three years. “The upward trajectory of high-quality, wealth-generating, and job-creating investments across the country underscores the effectiveness of Algeria’s economic reforms and strategic initiatives,” he asserted.
The AAPI chief also highlighted the significance of a recent high-level meeting between the agency and the European Union Delegation in Algeria. This event, he explained, was part of a broader cooperation framework between the EU and Algeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, designed to bolster direct European investments in the country. The initiative aims to strengthen Algeria’s position as a key investment destination and enhance economic ties with European partners.
