Illegal speculation: Up to 173 million DA worth of goods seized since beginning of 2023

ALGIERS– Since the beginning of 2023, the commercial control services have seized goods worth 173.24 million DA, as part of economic control and fraud repression efforts, said the Minister of Trade and of Export Promotion, Tayeb Zitouni.
Guest of the Radio Forum program on Channel 1, Mr. Zitouni indicated that the control officers carried out from January 1 to March 22, 32,130 interventions resulting in the seizure of 690.89 tons of goods, in addition to 48 offenses noted and 48 legal proceedings reported.
Control operations resulted in the seizure of widely consumed food products, including subsidized edible oil (95,482 L), milk (7,888 L), sugar (11.4 tonnes) and apples (243.86 tonnes) .
The retail sector ranks first in terms of control interventions at the national level with 25,092 interventions, i.e. a rate of 78%, followed by wholesale (5,902 interventions) i.e. 18%, then the production sector with 838 interventions (3%) and importers’ premises with 298 interventions or 1%.
