ALGIERS- Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui received Mr. Gilbert Houngbo, Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), at the government palace in Algiers on Monday. Houngbo is on a working visit to Algeria.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s office, the discussions during the meeting covered various activities and projects under the cooperation between Algeria and the ILO, notably the initiative for an international coalition for social justice.
Speaking on the sidelines of the meeting, Mr. Houngbo expressed gratitude to Algeria for its support of the ILO and its efforts to promote social dialogue in the world of work. He also praised the decisions of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to concretize the social aspect of the state and enhance social justice. These decisions include various measures related to salary and pension increases, the establishment of unemployment benefits, and the promotion of social protection and reforms related to trade union rights.
Mr. Houngbo’s acknowledgment of President Tebboune’s policies reflects international recognition of Algeria’s commitment to social justice and labor rights. The ILO, as a leading global organization promoting social justice and decent work, lauds Algeria’s efforts to improve the living standards of its citizens and ensure fair treatment in the workplace.
President Tebboune’s initiatives, including the recent reforms aimed at enhancing social security and labor rights, are seen as significant steps towards achieving a more equitable society and fostering sustainable development.
