Implementation of President Tebboune’s Decisions: Key Agreement Between Ministries of Communication and Transport

ALGIERS- In line with the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, announced during the celebration of the Presidential Award for the Professional Journalist on December 3, 2023, a significant agreement was signed today, Tuesday, December 12, 2023, between the Minister of Communication, Dr. Mohamed Laagab, and the Minister of Transport, Mohamed Habib Zehani.
The framework agreement pertains to facilitating airfare discounts for sports journalists covering African competitions, spanning a period of five years and subject to renewal.
Under this agreement, media outlets seeking to cover African sports events will benefit from up to a 50% discount on international air travel, excluding fees. This discount is contingent upon presenting an official mission assignment from the relevant media outlet covering the specific event or activity.
Furthermore, the agreement emphasizes the obligation for national media benefiting from airfare discounts to highlight the role of Air Algérie in ensuring coverage of sports competitions. It also underscores the promotion of the public’s right to receive sports news directly from its source in a timely manner.
This initiative marks a significant step in supporting sports journalism, fostering media engagement in covering African sports events, and recognizing the pivotal role of the national carrier in facilitating such coverage. As the agreement takes effect, it is expected to enhance the visibility of Algerian sports journalism on the continental stage.
