ALGIERS- The Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, Ali Aoun, received, on Monday in Algiers, the President of the Algerian Economic Renewal Council, Kamel moula, with whom he discussed means to further enhance consultation and collaboration in order to remove the constraints encountered by the various operators, particularly on the question of the import of inputs and raw materials, indicated a press release from the ministry.

The discussions held during this meeting, which falls within the framework of the continuous dialogue and permanent consultation with the social partners, particularly with the representatives of economic and industrial operators, “mainly focused on the willingness of the two parties to further strengthen consultation and collaboration with a view to removing the constraints encountered by the various operators, in particular on the question of the import of inputs and raw materials”,  specified the communiqué.

In this context, “a tripartite meeting will be held in the coming days bringing together under one roof the Ministry of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, representatives of the National Agency for the Promotion of Foreign Trade (Algex) and economic operators to allow better regulation of these imports which cannot be done to the detriment of national production and market stability”.

The discussions also allowed “the study of the feasibility of reducing the taxation of inputs, in particular from Asian markets in order to improve the competitiveness of national companies”, added the press release.

The industrial land file was also at the center of the discussions, as well as the need to expedite the establishment of the National Industrial Land Agency in order to free up outstanding investments, according to the same source.

In this regard, “the minister indicated that the file is finalized and scheduled for study at a next interministerial council”.

Discussions also focused on “the need to prioritize investments and direct them towards strategic sectors that generate added value capable of replacing imports, as well as the usefulness of setting up non-tariff barriers to imports, which will help regulate the market and contribute to the development of the economic sector,” according to the press release.

These files, noted the press release,  will be studied and assessed within the Listening and Monitoring Committee set up at the CREA and with which the Ministry of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production will be associated in order to allow “feedback and strategic monitoring to accompany investors and remove the obstacles that may stand in their way in order to contribute effectively to the economic and industrial development of the country”.
