ALGIERS– The Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Security, Youssef Cherfa, indicated that the increases for retirement pensions approved by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, will be paid to beneficiaries as of March 10.
Youcef Cherfa added, in statements broadcast by Public Television, that all pensions will be paid in the prescribed installments before the month of Ramadan. Stressing that the increase in wages will affect 2 million and 800 thousand people, while the increase in pensions approved by the President of the Republic will benefit more than 8 million people.
The Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security indicated that the retirement allowance affects 2,985,000 beneficiaries, while the unemployment allowance benefits 2 million beneficiaries. Confirming, in the same context, that the unemployment benefit after its increase to 15,000 Algerian dinars was paid from last January for the benefit of the registered unemployed. Also specifying that all retirement pensions will be paid with the increase decided, from March 10 until March 20, 2023.
In the same vein, the minister pointed out that public sector workers will benefit from a salary increase varying between 47 and 50 percent.
“During 2023 and 2024, teachers will be affected by an increase of up to 13,800 Algerian dinars”, specified the minister, adding that: “During the same period, low-income workers will also benefit from wages increase. Indeed, the increase will vary between 4500 and 8500 Algerian dinars”.
President Tebboune confirms the payment of salary increases before Ramadan 2023
President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune indicated that the previously announced salary increases, which will be paid before the holy month of Ramadan, are an “exceptional and unprecedented” decision, especially since the rate of increases will reach 47% by 2024.
During his periodic interview with national media representatives, broadcast on Friday evening on national television and radio stations, President Tebboune stressed that the salary increases announced, in addition to retirement pensions and the reduction of income taxes, were all part of the improvement of the purchasing power of the Algerian citizen.
“No salary increase has been recorded in Algeria for almost 10 or 15 years. The current gradual increase in wages will undoubtedly affect the standard of living of the citizen, pending a definitive increase during the next year”, further explained President Tebboune.
