Indian embassy in Algeria to celebrate 9th International Day of Yoga: Embracing wellness, harmony

ALGIERS– Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India. The word ‘yoga’ derives from Sanskrit and means to join or to unite, symbolizing the union of body and consciousness. Today it is practiced in various forms around the world and continues to grow in popularity, including in Algeria. Recognizing its universal appeal, on 11 December 2014, the United Nations proclaimed 21 June as the International Day of Yoga. The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness worldwide of the benefits of practicing yoga. This day has been celebrated annually as the International Day of Yoga since 2015 and the 9th edition is being celebrated in 2023.
This year yoga day is being celebrated under the theme “Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”, that translates into “the world is one family”.
The Embassy of India in Algeria will celebrate the 9th International Day of Yoga at the Jardin d’essai du Hamma, Algiers on 21 June 2023 (Wednesday) at 0815 hrs, according to a press release issued by the embassy.
A guided Yoga session of approximately one hour based on the Common Yoga Protocol will be led by two prominent Algerian Yoga teachers, Ms. Souheir Louahala and Ms. Hayat Hamlaoui. The event will be attended by 200 to 250 people, mainly Yoga enthusiasts, Algerian High officers and Diplomats. Yoga t-shirts and mats will be provided to the participants and refreshments will be distributed after the Yoga session.
Following the Yoga demonstration, Ambassador of India in Algiers, H.E. Mr. Gaurav Ahluwalia will present Certificates of Appreciation to the Yoga teachers.
The 9th International Day of Yoga celebration promises to be an enriching experience, bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds to explore the profound benefits of yoga and promote it among Algerian population.
