The chairman of the Committee for Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and the Community, Salim Merah chaired, on Monday, the installation of the parliamentary friendship group “Algeria-Slovenia” which aims to “consolidate the rapprochement between the two country,” said a statement from the National People’s Congress (APN).
In his speech, Merah stressed that the installation of this parliamentary group is “an important event in the consolidation of bilateral relations, being a tool for the development of parliamentary diplomacy and a means of rapprochement and strengthening of relations between friendship between the two countries.
In this context, he hailed the opening of the way for parliaments to “consecrate friendship and understanding between the communities, and therefore integrate the human and cultural dimension into the efforts of rapprochement and cooperation, in the service of peaceful coexistence and global security”.
On the occasion of National Emigration Day commemorating the 61st anniversary of the October 17, 1961 protests, Merah called on all friendship commissions to support the Algerian community abroad, calling the latter “a part integral part of the Algerian people”.
In his speech, the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to Algeria, Robert Krmelj described as “good” the friendly relations between Algeria and Slovenia which, he said, were “consolidated by the historical relations established between the two countries, in particular during the political consultations held on the sidelines of the work of the 77th ordinary session of the UN General Assembly.
Mr. Krmelj stressed, in this context, “the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in terms of promoting bilateral cooperation and coordination being an element capable of strengthening trust and friendship between the two countries”.
The diplomat showed his country’s readiness to cooperate with Algeria, particularly on the economic and technological fronts, noting that this parliamentary group “will reflect the depth of bilateral relations”.
Speaking on the occasion, the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Hadjar Amar affirmed that the installation of the “Algeria-Slovenia” friendship group which coincides with the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two country denotes the will and commitment of the leaders of the two countries to strengthen the relations of friendship and cooperation in the various fields”.
For Mr. Hadjar, the political consultations between the two countries reflect “the close relations which resulted in the signing of an economic cooperation agreement and the creation of a joint commission”.
The representative of the AEs expressed confidence in “parliamentary cooperation which will open up new prospects for economic relations, particularly in the fields of tourism, digital industry, artificial intelligence, energy and production green hydrogen”.
For her part, MP Maria Amraoui, who was given the chairmanship of the group, highlighted “the convergence of views between the two countries on many regional and international issues of common interest”, insisting on “the importance of relaunch the win-win bilateral partnership in terms of water management, forests, agriculture, environment, new technologies and renewable energy”.
Ms. Amraoui noted, in this sense, “the determination of the members of the Algeria-Slovenia parliamentary friendship group to work tirelessly to open up new prospects for bilateral cooperation at all levels”.
It should be recalled that the installation ceremony of the group which took place in the presence of the vice-president of the APN, Lansari Ghali saw the appointment of MM Kbirita Mohamed and Mohamed Bouchmal Hicham to the positions of vice-president of the group and Mr. Abderrahmane Kadri, as group rapporteur.
