Interior Minister receives British Minister for Immigration: Security cooperation on agenda

ALGIERS- The Minister of the Interior, Brahim Merad, welcomed the British Minister for Immigration, Robert Jenrick, during his official visit to Algeria. The two ministers engaged in discussions regarding the current state of bilateral cooperation between their respective countries, with a particular focus on security matters.

According to a press release from the Ministry of the Interior, the British minister expressed his admiration for Algeria’s exceptional efforts and experience in strengthening border security and combating transnational organized crime. He also expressed his willingness to support and enhance security coordination between the two nations, given the common challenges they face.

Minister Merad emphasized Algeria’s commitment to prioritizing security, highlighting the mobilization of human, material, and technological resources. He also noted the importance of the development dimension, particularly in border areas, in coordination with neighboring countries. In this regard, he referenced the recent decision by the President of the Republic to allocate one billion dollars to finance development projects in African countries.

Furthermore, Minister Merad called for the expansion of joint cooperation in non-hydrocarbon economic areas in light of Algeria’s new investment facilitation system and the promising dynamism the country is experiencing.

Overall, the meeting between the two ministers was productive and highlighted the importance of continued cooperation between Algeria and the United Kingdom in the realm of security.
