Algiers, Algeria | July 5th, 2024 — A significant step towards bridging the digital divide in education was taken as the Ministry of the Interior, Local Authorities, and Territorial Planning signed an agreement with Algérie Télécom to connect primary schools across Algeria to the internet. The agreement was formalized in a ceremony held on Thursday in Algiers.

The convention was signed by Larbi Merzouk, Secretary General of the Ministry of the Interior, Adel Bentoumi, CEO of Algérie Télécom, and witnessed by Abdelouahab Bara, Secretary General of the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, and Dina Lila Soualili, Secretary General of the Ministry of National Education.
Preferential Rates for Low-Income Schools
Under this agreement, primary schools, particularly those in low-income municipalities, will receive fixed telephony and internet services at preferential rates. This initiative aims to create a more efficient educational environment across the entire national territory.
Supporting Innovation and Digitalization
This initiative aligns with the joint efforts to support and promote innovation at the primary school level. It also fits within Algérie Télécom’s strategy to be an active participant in the digitization process and the widespread use of information and communication technologies.
