ALGIERS– The Ministry of Fisheries and Fish Production and the Ministry of Transport inked, on Monday, an inter-ministerial decision defining the terms and conditions for the approval of the acquired professional experience of active fishermen to obtain aptitude certificates to drive fishing boats and related gear.

The approval of the acquired professional experience of sea-fishermen is intended to be a means of regularizing the situation of fishing professionals in activity who do not hold certificates of aptitude in accordance with the function they exercise on board fishing vessels, said a press release from the Ministry of Fisheries and Fish Production.

To obtain the aptitude certificate, the candidate should pass an oral and written examination, evaluated by a jury chaired by the director of the fisheries and aquaculture training establishment or a similar body.

Among the required conditions, the confirmation of a fixed period of effective navigation ranging from 12 to 36 months depending on the case, concluded the same source.
