ALGIERS- The Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, held a meeting on Tuesday with Mr. Tarek Rizk, the President of the Middle East and North Africa region at the international group SLB (formerly known as Schlumberger).
According to the ministry’s statement, the discussions between the two parties primarily focused on cooperation and partnership between Sonatrach and SLB in the hydrocarbon sector, along with prospects for their enhancement.
Specifically, both parties examined opportunities in the exploration and development of oil and gas fields, as well as in oilfield services, digital solutions, and modern technologies in the Algerian oil and gas industry. Training opportunities in these fields were also discussed.
Towards Cooperation in Carbon Footprint Reduction
The discussions also included opportunities for cooperation and investment in reducing emissions, lowering the carbon footprint, and increasing efficiency in the oil and gas industry. Minister Arkab highlighted the importance of cooperation with SLB in digital solutions and digitizing the hydrocarbon sector to optimize the national hydrocarbon resources sustainably.
He emphasized the need to promote local content, taking into account all its aspects, and the importance of developing, refining, and training human resources.
Mr. Rizk expressed SLB’s commitment to investing and expanding its activities in Algeria. He emphasized the company’s dedication to providing the latest solutions and technologies to contribute to the achievements of Algeria’s oil and gas sector objectives. Additionally, SLB aims to effectively contribute to promoting local content, supporting startups, and implementing mutually beneficial investment partnerships.
