Iranian Ettela’at Institution Director Abbas Salehi Calls for Strengthened Media Cooperation with Algeria to Counter Information Warfare

ALGIERS- A delegation of Algerian media executives, including Mr. Maamar Gani, the General Director and proprietor of the online platform “Dzair Tube,” visited the Islamic Republic of Iran. During their visit, they held discussions with Mr. Abbas Salehi, Director of the Iranian Ettela’at Institution, aimed at strengthening collaboration with diverse Iranian media entities. The delegation sought to gain insights into the accomplishments of the Islamic Revolution across various domains, especially as their visit aligned with the commemoration of its 45th anniversary.

The Algerian delegation was welcomed by Mr. Abbas Salehi, the former Minister of Culture and Guidance and Director of the Iranian Ettela’at Institution. Salehi noted that the revered Algerian revolution had inspired the Iranian people to embark on their own revolutionary journey. He underscored the abundance of literature and publications in Iran commemorating this illustrious and enduring revolution. Salehi stressed the imperative of media collaboration, citing the esteemed status of his institution in Iran as a potential catalyst for initiating institutional cooperation between the two fraternal nations across all media domains.

Salehi urged journalists to shed light on the genocidal war against Gaza and expose the crimes committed by the Zionist occupation army against Palestinians and Islamic sanctities. He emphasized the significance of rallying Arab, Islamic, and global public opinion against these Zionist actions, denouncing them as war crimes against humanity. Salehi advocated for the organization of media, scientific, and educational initiatives focused on the Palestinian cause and the struggle against Zionist aggression.

Salehi also emphasized the importance of leveraging modern technology in the media industry and fostering cultural and technological exchanges between the two nations. He stressed that countering information warfare and hostile media influences, particularly in the digital sphere where news fabrication, data manipulation, and distortion of events are prevalent, requires collaborative efforts and the development of digital content that amplifies and reinforces our narratives. Salehi stressed the need for modern media cooperation as part of a strategy to maintain informational control and combat misinformation, advocating for a concerted approach to confront these challenges effectively.

Salehi elucidated that the phenomenon of fake news fabrication has become more complex in its digital context, intertwining technological, communication, informational, scientific, security, and intelligence dimensions in its production. This necessitates the development of an integrated and coherent media system involving actors from various sisterly and friendly countries.

In conclusion, the former minister pointed out that Iran, as a center of the Islamic East, can work alongside Algeria, as a center of the Islamic Maghreb, to bridge the geographical gap through cultural, knowledge, and technological exchange.
