Algiers, Algeria | June 29th, 2024 — On Friday, Iranian expatriates residing in Algeria participated in their homeland’s presidential election, a critical event necessitated by the tragic death of former President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash.
The voting process commenced at the Iranian embassy in Algiers early in the morning and continued until 6 PM local time. The embassy ensured a seamless voting experience, welcoming Iranian citizens to exercise their democratic right. Under the guidance of Ambassador Mohammad Reza Babaei, the embassy staff facilitated a smooth electoral process, providing a warm reception and necessary assistance to voters on this significant day in the history of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure that Iranians abroad can participate in this pivotal election. The Iranian Election Committee reported that there are 345 polling stations in 95 countries worldwide to accommodate the Iranian diaspora.
In an interview with Dzair Tube, Ambassador Babaei remarked, “The elections began at 8 AM and will continue until 6 PM on Friday.” He emphasized the importance of creating conducive conditions to guarantee the right of the Iranian community in Algeria to participate in shaping their country’s future by electing a president who will dedicate himself to serving the nation and the interests of the Resistance movement. This also aims to strengthen the unity among Muslims.
The presidential candidates in this election are Mostafa Pourmohammadi, Masoud Pezeshkian, Saeed Jalili, and Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. Each candidate brings a unique perspective and set of policies to the table, aiming to address the diverse needs of the Iranian populace and the broader goals of the nation.
