ALGIERS- During his recent visit to Algeria to participate in the seventh summit of gas-exporting countries, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi presented a book to Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune as a cultural gift. Authored by Dr. Mohammad Reza Zaeri, the Iranian cultural attaché in Algeria, the book titled “Algerian Figures: Well-Known Personalities of Algeria” was warmly received by President Tebboune, who expressed gratitude for the thoughtful gesture.
Released as a trial edition, the book features profiles of 70 prominent Algerian personalities written in Persian. Its final version is set to coincide with the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the glorious Algerian Revolution in November 1954. The aim of the publication is to honor the significant figures who have contributed to Algeria’s development across various fields over the decades.
In addition to the profiles, the book includes an Arabic-language article by Dr. Hana Saada, exploring bilateral relations between Algeria and Iran. Furthermore, a section in Persian highlights notable Persian figures, including religious figures such as Imam Bukhari, literary figures like Ibn al-Muqaffa and Abu al-Faraj al-Isfahani, as well as scholars such as Al-Biruni, Al-Khwarizmi, Al-Razi, Al-Farabi, and Ibn Sina. This section aims to deepen mutual understanding and enhance cultural ties between the two fraternal nations.
In an interview with Algerian television, Iranian Cultural Attaché Mohammad Reza Zaeri explained that initially, the book aimed to commemorate 60 years of diplomatic relations between Algeria and Iran. However, Dr. Zaeri later decided to commemorate a deeper anniversary that holds significance in the hearts of both Algerians and Iranians – the 70th anniversary of the glorious Algerian Revolution. Iranians view this revolution as a source of inspiration for their own struggle, considering it a heroic war fought by the Algerian people with unparalleled courage, sacrifice, and resilience.
Regarding the book’s content, Zaeri highlighted its comprehensive coverage of various aspects of Algerian life, featuring a diverse array of revolutionary, political, cultural, artistic, and scientific figures.
Zaeri also seized the opportunity to discuss the impact of the Algerian Revolution on Iranians and himself. Iranians supported the courageous Algerian people and celebrated the victory of this inspiring revolution, which symbolizes profound meanings, values, and principles, as well as liberation from the shackles of colonialism. The independence of Algeria is not only a triumphant victory achieved by the heroic Algerian people during the glorious November Revolution but also a victory for all freedom fighters worldwide striving to break free from slavery, subjugation, and oppression.
