ALGIERS- In an interview with national television, Iranian President Mr. Ebrahim Raïssi spoke about the relations between his country and Algeria.
Mr. Raïssi affirmed that the two countries maintain very strong political relations, emphasizing their deep historical ties, especially following the Islamic Revolution in Iran.
“The Iranian people hold great esteem for the Algerian people, who have a significant history in the fight against colonialism and have paid a heavy price for the recovery of their freedom,” he stated during the interview aired on Tuesday evening.
The Iranian President underscored the need to elevate the level of economic cooperation to match the political consensus between the two countries, highlighting “significant opportunities” for expanding cooperation, especially in areas such as trade, energy, maritime transportation, scientific research, technology, knowledge economy, and engineering services. “The investment climate in Algeria offers significant opportunities for investors,” he emphasized.
Successful GECF Summit
Continuing his remarks, President Raïssi also addressed his participation in the 7th Summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) hosted by Algeria last Saturday. Mr. Raïssi affirmed that the Summit was “highly successful.”
“The speech delivered by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, at the opening of the proceedings of this international event was very important, as was the development of a common vision among GECF member countries to safeguard the interests of producer and consumer countries. It is imperative to strengthen cooperation and dialogue among member countries,” he emphasized.
The Iranian President expressed his hope to see the recommendations of the Algiers Summit materialize, as they represent “a very important step for the development of the Forum and the strengthening of cooperation among member states.”
Djamaâ El-Djazaïr: A Prestigious Religious Monument
Regarding his visit to the Great Mosque of Algiers, the Iranian President mentioned his visit to Djamaâ El-Djazaïr, which he described as a “cornerstone and prestigious religious monument,” affirming that this mosque “will play a major role in strengthening ties between Muslim peoples.”
Gaza is Experiencing a Genocide
President Raïssi also addressed the Zionist aggression against the Palestinian Gaza Strip, stating: “What is happening in Gaza is genocide and an unprecedented war crime.”
The Iranian President also criticized “the West’s support for the Zionist entity and the silence of the international community.” Furthermore, he criticized the role of the Security Council, stating that it “is no longer effective in addressing what is happening in Gaza.”
The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran praised Algeria’s position in support of the Palestinian cause, highlighting the convergence of Algeria’s and Iran’s positions on this issue. “Algeria, as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, can play a very important role in the triumph of the Palestinian cause and the defense of the oppressed Palestinian people,” he added.
