Irish Companies Explore Partnership Opportunities in Algeria’s Livestock and Dairy Sector

Algiers, Algeria | November 20th, 2024 — A delegation of nine Irish companies specializing in livestock and dairy, accompanied by the Irish Food Board (Board Bia), recently visited Algeria to explore business and partnership opportunities in these sectors. This visit underscores Ireland’s growing interest in collaborating with Algeria, known for its robust agricultural potential.
According to a statement from Board Bia, shared on Monday with Echorouk, the delegation participated in the Algeria-Ireland Dairy and Livestock Symposium held on November 12, 2024. Organized by Board Bia, the event aimed to position Ireland as a supplier of high-quality meat, livestock, and dairy products while fostering mutually beneficial strategic partnerships between Irish suppliers and Algeria’s livestock producers and dairy manufacturers.
Strengthening Industry Collaboration
To complement the symposium, Board Bia facilitated site visits for the visiting Irish companies to farms and dairy processing facilities near Algiers. These visits provided Irish exporters with a comprehensive understanding of Algeria’s livestock and dairy industries, showcasing the country’s capabilities and areas for potential collaboration.
The symposium also sought to build on relationships established during previous engagements, aiming to establish long-term business partnerships between Ireland’s food and beverage sector and Algeria’s targeted food processors and manufacturers.
Trade Figures and Market Potential
In 2023, Ireland exported goods worth over €95 million to Algeria, according to the statement. These exports included €42 million in skimmed milk powder, €36 million in cheese, and €10 million in whole milk powder. Algeria accounted for 11% of Ireland’s exports to Africa, making it the second-largest destination after Nigeria, which received exports valued at €160 million.
