ALGIERS- In an exclusive interview with Algérie 54, author and journalist Jacob Cohen provides a comprehensive analysis of the current global geopolitical landscape, shedding light on crucial matters including the crisis in Niger, the Moroccan monarchy’s apparent submission to Zionism, and the nuanced role of French politics in these unfolding events.

BRICS Summit and Shifting Global Dynamics

Cohen addresses the ongoing BRICS Summit in South Africa, emphasizing the significant transformation in global dynamics. He asserts that the prominence of the BRICS summit is closely linked to the recent upheaval in Ukraine and the subsequent demonstrations that have weakened Western hegemony. Cohen outlines how Russia’ support has grown, spotlighting the diminishing military influence of the West and the shift towards alternative poles of international power. He believes that the BRICS nations are emerging as credible proponents of a more balanced and consensual global order.

Niger Crisis and France’s Humiliation

Cohen discusses the downfall of Nigerien President Mohamed Bazoum, analyzing it as a substantial setback for France. He goes beyond terming it a mere loss, labeling it a humiliation. Cohen further discusses the strained relationship between France and the Nigerien population, highlighting a growing dissatisfaction and resistance against French involvement. He contrasts France’s aggressive stance with the more diplomatic approach of the United States, ultimately painting a picture of waning French influence in Africa and the erosion of vital economic interests.

ECOWAS, Military Intervention, and Regional Opposition

The interview probes the possibility of military intervention in Niger. Cohen offers a multidimensional assessment, acknowledging factors such as the limited support for intervention, the disapproval of key neighboring countries, and the potential emergence of new forms of regional organization. He anticipates that the consolidation of the new regime in Niger will lead to changes in power dynamics and economic relations within the region.

He said: “The military intervention appeared compromised from the outset due to several factors. Initially, France’s financial constraints prevented it from openly participating. Additionally, only a limited number of African countries, around 4 or 5, were in favor of the war, and even among them, the Nigerian parliament withheld its approval. Furthermore, any potential armed intervention would have been confronted by a coalition consisting of Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea, possibly with external backing—an aspect that warrants careful consideration. It’s worth noting that key countries in the region, including Algeria, Mauritania, and Chad, where Macron swiftly condemned the unconstitutional transfer of power within 24 hours of Deby’ son assuming control, voiced their opposition. The prospect of a deeply divisive conflict of this magnitude in Africa is profoundly concerning. This trajectory seems to be steering towards the consolidation of the new regime, implying significant shifts in power dynamics and economic relations. As ECOWAS has suffered a loss of credibility, given its minimal record of regional solidarity and its apparent alignment with French interests, there’s room for the emergence of alternative, more autonomous forms of organization.”

Algeria’s Strategic Neutrality

Cohen explores Algeria’ strategic position regarding the crisis in Niger. He highlights Algeria’s concerns about the reinforcement of the Zionist presence along its borders and its interest in maintaining benevolent neutrality toward Niger’s new authorities. Cohen suggests that Algeria’ stance could escalate if a military intervention is launched, potentially threatening the stability of the Saharan region.

Jacob Cohen: “Algeria continues to find itself within the focus of the NATO arc, with the escalation of Zionist presence across the military spectrum in Moroccan border areas posing a significant concern. The potential annexation of Niger by western powers would establish an additional antagonistic zone along its Saharan boundaries, endangering both its sovereign borders and vast resources. Thus, Algeria presently upholds a supportive neutrality towards Niger and its emerging leadership, which is challenging the prevailing Western status quo. However, the situation could evolve if an implausible military intervention, contingent on the endorsement of France and the Western coalition, were ever to be pursued.”

Morocco’s Alignment with Zionism

The Zionist journalist Natali Mendaze has asserted that the Moroccan regime, in a diplomatic maneuver, transferred the city of Essaouira to the Zionist entity as part of a reciprocal agreement that recognized Morocco’ sovereignty over Western Sahara. This complex exchange has led to discussions regarding the evolving relationship between Morocco and the Zionist entity, prompting some to question whether Morocco could be perceived as a new Zionist colony, especially following the enactment of laws permitting foreigners to acquire property within the Kingdom.

In this vein, the interview delves into Morocco’s relationship with Zionism, with Cohen asserting that the Moroccan monarchy has displayed an unprecedented level of submission. Cohen highlights the rewriting of history textbooks and the close collaboration with international finance, painting a picture of deepening ties with the Zionist entity. He discusses the presence of André Azoulay, a figure with connections to the Mossad, in the heart of Moroccan power.

Detailing, Jacob Cohen asserts that the Moroccan monarchy has transcended all limits in terms of aligning with Zionism, a movement he believes inherently holds disdain for Arab culture and aims to subjugate and disgrace Arabs. Even though Ehud Barak likened the Zionist entity to a villa surrounded by a jungle, Egypt and Jordan were compelled to sign and uphold peace treaties with the entity due to prevailing circumstances, despite their covert attempts to undermine this “peace.” Meanwhile, Cohen criticizes Morocco for excessively accommodating Zionists, going so far as to revise historical narratives to validate the enduring rapport with Moroccan Jews and, by extension, their Zionist counterparts. He contends that the nation is excessively placating the forces of global finance. Cohen suggests that the Mossad infiltrated Cherifian authority in the early 1980s, placing André Azoulay, a banker, in a pivotal role as a special adviser to the monarchy— a role Cohen deems Azoulay to have excelled in.

French Politics and the Algeria Question

The interview concludes with an examination of the French political landscape’s reactions to recent developments in Algeria. Cohen addresses the campaign led by certain French lobbies, which he attributes to a historical undercurrent of resentment against Algeria’s independent stance. He highlights the country’s strategic alliances with Russia and China, emphasizing the potential for Algeria’s candidacy for BRICS membership.

In this illuminating interview, Jacob Cohen provides a multifaceted analysis of global power shifts, regional dynamics, and the intricate relationships shaping the geopolitical landscape. Cohen’s insights shed light on the evolving role of nations in an increasingly interconnected world, offering a thought-provoking perspective on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
