Riceputi described Le Pen’s role as “one of many executioners in a deeply violent colonial system,” highlighting that his participation in torture was not an anomaly but rather a manifestation of systemic violence linked to France’s colonial strategies. His legacy, Riceputi argues, reflects “the poisoned political fruit of France’s colonial war in Algeria,” with far-reaching consequences that still influence France’s far-right politics today.
The Political Dynasty and Lingering Influence
Le Pen’s ideological footprint extended well beyond his personal career. His daughter, Marine Le Pen, succeeded him as leader of the National Front, later rebranded as the National Rally (Rassemblement National). Under her leadership, the party softened its public image while maintaining core nationalist and anti-immigration stances. Marine Le Pen reached the second round of the French presidential elections twice, in 2017 and 2022, underscoring the enduring influence of her father’s legacy.
His granddaughter, Marion Maréchal, also continues to play a significant role in far-right politics, further cementing the Le Pen family’s presence in the French political landscape.
