Joint Efforts by People’s National Army Yield Fruitful Results in Anti-Terrorism and Anti-Smuggling Operations

Algiers, Algeria– In a resolute bid to combat terrorism and tackle the pervasive menace of drug trafficking, the People’s National Army of Algeria has achieved remarkable success, making significant strides in various operations conducted throughout the country. The period from August 2 to August 8, 2023, witnessed a string of successful missions resulting in the discovery of explosive caches, the apprehension of support elements for terrorist groups, and a staggering seizure of over half a million psychotropic tablets.
Dismantling Terrorism:
During a sweeping combing operation carried out in Tébessa, the People’s National Army unearthed and dismantled 19 terrorist casemates, containing a cache of explosives and assorted items intended for nefarious activities. These substantial successes underscore the unwavering commitment of Algeria’ security forces to eradicating the threat of terrorism from its roots.
Crackdown on Drug Trafficking:
The People’s National Army’s coordinated efforts with various security services have borne fruit in the fight against drug trafficking. Across different military regions, a total of 51 drug traffickers were apprehended, and alongside their capture, a significant number of Kalashnikov-type rifles were confiscated, reinforcing the message that criminal activities will not be tolerated.
Border Security Vigilance:
The Ministry of National Defense reported the thwarting of attempts to smuggle a staggering 10 quintals and 66 kg of treated Hashish across the borders with Morocco. This resounding success is bolstered by the seizure of 531,435 psychotropic tablets, a testament to the unwavering dedication of Algeria’ security forces in safeguarding its communities against the threats posed by drug trafficking.
Multifaceted Operations:
The successes achieved by the People’s National Army were not confined to anti-terrorism and anti-drug efforts alone. In various regions, including Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Guezam, and Djanet, a total of 96 individuals were apprehended, while a cache of 21 vehicles, 147 generators, 61 pneumatic drills, explosives, detonation tools, and equipment used in illicit gold panning operations were seized, underscoring the multifaceted nature of the challenges faced by Algeria’ security forces.
Border Vigilance and Coastal Security:
The vigilance of the border guards, in coordination with the National Gendarmerie and Customs, led to the interception of attempts to smuggle vast quantities of fuel—an estimated 15,363 liters—in regions including Tébessa, Souk Ahras, El Tarf, and Bordj Badji Mokhtar. Simultaneously, the Coast Guard’s vigilant efforts led to the thwarting of illegal immigration attempts along the national coasts, ensuring the safety and security of the nation’s borders and territorial waters.
