ALGIERS- In a fiery introduction on the “Alamet Isteffham” or “Question Mark” show on Dzair Tube, Belkacem Djir delves into a seismic event unfolding in Morocco. The narrative centers around a wide-ranging investigation conducted by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) involving approximately 250 prominent figures in what Djir refers to as the “Cocaine Kingdom.” Notably, these figures include advisers to King Mohammed VI, ministers, military generals, intelligence officers, Moroccan police officials, government employees, and businesspersons.
Djir underscores the gravity of the situation, stating that even party leaders and foreign ambassadors are under investigation. The roots of this case trace back to 2019 when the so-called “Saharan Escobar,” a major drug lord operating with the support of Moroccan officials, was toppled. Djir hints at the scent of political vendetta surrounding this case.
The leaks suggest that the “Saharan Escobar” used small planes to transport cocaine from Latin America to West African countries, including Ivory Coast, Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, and Sierra Leone. Additionally, large quantities of narcotics were transferred overland through Mali and Niger to Algeria, Libya, and Egypt. The drug lord also facilitated the maritime transport of drugs along the Moroccan coast towards Europe, establishing himself as one of the biggest drug traffickers in Africa.
The drug lord, who had a luxurious villa in Casablanca and apartments in Saidia, Morocco, was initially imprisoned in 2019. However, Djir notes that he sought revenge against Moroccan officials and associates who orchestrated a plot to seize his assets while he was in prison.
The scandal extends to figures such as Abdennabi Bayou, a leader in the Eastern Front for Morocco, Saaid Naciri, a prominent figure in the Authenticity and Modernity Party, and Saïd Naciri, the president of Wydad Casablanca Club. The leaks further suggest that influential Moroccan figures collaborated with the “Saharan Escobar” since 2010, transporting over 40 tons of drugs from the Saidia coast to various African countries, including Algeria.
Djir poses critical questions about the implications of this scandal, asking whether it serves as conclusive evidence implicating the Moroccan drug system. He questions whether this revelation directly condemns the Moroccan Kingdom and King Mohammed VI personally. Djir also raises concerns about the strategic approach of the Moroccan regime in flooding the region, specifically targeting the security and stability of Algeria with narcotics.
In conclusion, Djir’s inquiry leads to a pivotal question: Will this scandal contribute to the downfall of the Moroccan regime? The unfolding revelations have far-reaching consequences, shaking the foundations of the Moroccan government and implicating high-profile figures in a web of complicity and corruption.
