ALGIERS- President Kaïs Saïed of Tunisia will travel to Algeria on Friday, March 1, 2024, to participate in the seventh summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), held in Algiers from February 29 to March 2, 2024.
The summit will focus on issues of common cooperation among major gas-producing countries to ensure the stability of global gas markets and address challenges related to the demand for this clean energy resource for the coming period, as reported by the Algerian news agency APS.
“Discussions will focus on reviewing the mechanisms of this cooperation to ensure global energy security while emphasizing the importance of securing supply and demand and serving the common interest through long-term commercial contracts, in addition to strengthening joint efforts in investment and project financing in the future,” said Algerian Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, according to the same source.
The Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) is an intergovernmental organization representing the world’s major gas-exporting countries, accounting for 70% of proven global gas reserves, over 40% of marketed production, 47% of pipeline exports, and more than half of global LNG exports. It has twelve permanent members (Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, United Arab Emirates, Venezuela) and seven observer members (Angola, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Malaysia, Mauritania, Mozambique, Peru).
