Reappointed by President Tebboune, Rezig Returns to the Helm with a Renewed Vision to Boost Algeria’s Export Strategy and Trade Diplomacy
Algiers, Algeria | April 15th, 2025 — Kamel Rezig was officially reinstated on Tuesday as Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, succeeding Mohamed Boukhari, who was appointed a day earlier by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to head the National Economic, Social, and Environmental Council (CNESE).
The handover ceremony took place at the ministry’s headquarters in the presence of senior officials and representatives of affiliated institutions. Rezig, visibly resolute, expressed his gratitude to the President of the Republic for renewing his trust and vowed to carry out the strategic roadmap outlined by the Head of State.
“It is a great honor to once again serve my country in this crucial sector. I pledge to work with dedication and efficiency to elevate Algeria’s foreign trade capacity and strengthen our national export base,” declared Rezig during his address.
The new minister also paid tribute to his predecessor, Mohamed Boukhari, commending his efforts in steering the ministry and congratulating him on his new assignment. He emphasized continuity and coordination with all government departments as key to meeting Algeria’s ambitious trade and export targets.
Prior to this reappointment, Dr. Kamel Rezig served as an advisor to the President of the Republic in charge of trade, supply, control, and import-export matters. A State Doctor in Economic Sciences from the University of Algiers, Rezig is no stranger to the ministry, having previously served as Minister of Trade and Export Promotion from January 2020 to March 2023. His return is viewed as both strategic and timely as Algeria intensifies efforts to diversify its economy and expand its presence in international markets.
For his part, Mohamed Boukhari expressed his sincere thanks to President Tebboune for the confidence placed in him during his tenure at the helm of a vital ministry. He also voiced appreciation to the ministry’s staff for their unwavering support and affirmed his commitment to advancing national priorities in his new role as President of the CNESE.
