Kenyan Ambassador Kaluma Timothy Mcharo Celebrates Strong Ties with Algeria

Algiers, Algeria | October 9th, 2024 — In a notable diplomatic ceremony on Tuesday, Kaluma Timothy Mcharo, the Ambassador of the Republic of Kenya to Algeria, lauded the enduring and “good” relations that exist between the two nations, emphasizing Kenya’s desire to open new avenues for joint cooperation. His remarks followed the formal presentation of his letters of credence to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

“The relationship between Algeria and Kenya is rooted in a long history of friendship dating back to 1963,” Ambassador Mcharo stated, reflecting on the strong bonds that have developed over the decades. He acknowledged Algeria’s pivotal role in supporting Kenya’s quest for independence, expressing heartfelt gratitude: “We are truly thankful for this support, as it was through Algeria’s assistance that Kenya was able to achieve independence, leading us to establish excellent relations ever since.”

The ambassador outlined several key areas of collaboration between the two countries, including energy, education, agriculture, and the pharmaceutical industry. He expressed hope that this partnership would further strengthen in the future, particularly in the commercial sector, highlighting the potential for mutual growth and prosperity.

Moreover, Ambassador Mcharo emphasized the importance of establishing a joint commission for cooperation between Algeria and Kenya. This initiative, he asserted, would help “open even more perspectives for common cooperation,” reinforcing his commitment to fostering fraternal relations between the two nations.

The ceremony was attended by significant Algerian officials, including Mr. Boualem Boualem, Director of Cabinet at the Presidency of the Republic, and Mr. Ahmed Attaf, Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad.
