Algiers, Algeria | October 28th, 2024 — Since early 2024, Knauf Algeria, located in Benfreha, Oran, has achieved a significant milestone in non-hydrocarbon exports, shipping over seven million square meters of gypsum panels to African countries. This major export initiative underscores Algeria’s broader economic strategy to diversify its export portfolio beyond hydrocarbons, with Knauf playing a pioneering role in the African construction materials market.

Djalel Houari, Knauf Algeria’s commercial manager for the western region, highlighted this export success in a recent statement, noting that shipments have been delivered to Libya, Mauritania, and the Central African Republic, with both sea and overland routes via Arzew Port. Houari emphasized that this operation benefited from state support, specifically geared towards bolstering Algeria’s non-hydrocarbon exports and broadening access to international markets.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 21st edition of the International Exhibition of Real Estate, Construction, Housing, Public Works, and Ceramics (Batiwest 2024), held at the Mohammed Ben Ahmed Convention Center in Oran, Houari expressed Knauf’s ambition to expand into additional African markets before year’s end. He detailed plans to ramp up exports and introduce complementary products, anticipating strong demand across the continent as Algeria strengthens its commercial foothold.

Knauf Algeria, with an impressive annual production of over 35 million square meters of gypsum panels and 600,000 tons of gypsum, along with metal framing materials essential for the construction industry, is well-positioned to meet increasing regional demand. The plant’s output not only reinforces Algeria’s economic diversification goals but also sets a new benchmark for the country’s industrial sector as it taps into growing infrastructure and development projects across Africa.
