Lamamra receives AU Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra received, on Tuesday in Algiers, the Commissioner in charge of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation at the African Union (AU) , Prof. Mohamed Belhocine who is visiting Algeria as part of his senior executive assignments within the AU Commissariat.

The meeting made it possible to review the state of cooperation relations between Algeria and the African Union, particularly in the fields of education and training.

On this occasion, the two parties had highlighted the role of the Pan-African Institute for Water, Energy and Climate Change Sciences of the Aboubekr Belkaid University (Tlemcen), which since its creation in 2014 as part of the African University project more than 200 students from 31 countries. The Institute offers high-level educational and practical training.

The Head of Algerian diplomacy reiterated, during this meeting, the full support of the Algerian authorities who are constantly working to mobilize all means so that the Institute carries out its activity in the best conditions to develop the management capacities of African countries. in terms of water and energy resources, which constitute pressing challenges.

Lamamra made a point of affirming, during this meeting which coincides with the 59th anniversary of the creation of the Organization of African Union (OAU) and the institution of May 25, World Africa Day, the maintenance of Algeria’s commitment to completing the continent’s decolonization process and achieving its economic integration.

In a statement to the press after the hearing, Prof. Belhocine indicated that he had “exchanged views concerning certain technical and logistical problems faced by the Institute of Water Sciences, energy and climate change of Tlemcen in order to coordinate our activities with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in order to solve certain administrative problems”.

On this occasion, we presented the work of the Tlemcen Institute, part of the Pan-African University which includes three other institutes in Nairobi (Kenya), Ibadan (Nigeria) and Yaoundé (Cameroon).

Pr. Mohamed Belhocine had visited, on Monday, the Institute of Water Sciences of Tlemcen to establish contacts with the managers of this institute which offers a master’s degree in energy, water and climate change sciences. .

Belhocine’s visit to Algeria also aims to “establish contacts with the ministries having a relationship with the Institute”, academicians and students from certain universities in Algiers and Tlemcen.

It will also allow him to “participate in a webinar planned in Algiers next week, at the invitation of the organizers, in order to establish contacts with young people at the head of a startup incubator.
