Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra; received on Wednesday British Minister of State for South and Central Asia, North Africa, the United Nations and the Commonwealth, Tariq Mahmood Ahmad of Wimbledon, who is on a working visit to Algeria as part of the regular political dialogue between the two countries, said a statement from the ministry.
The discussions focused on the state of bilateral relations between Algeria and the United Kingdom and the prospects for their consolidation in various fields, as well as on current issues at regional and international levels.
”The two parties have, on this occasion, reiterated the political will that drives the two countries to strengthen bilateral partnership, particularly on the economic level, and to deepen political dialogue in the extension of the convergence which marks their positions of principle on various issues. In this respect, it was agreed to hold soon, in London, the 10th session of the Algerian-British strategic dialogue, which will be co-chaired by the Heads of diplomacy of the two countries”, specifies the ministry.
Moreover, in addition to the crisis and conflict situations in Africa and the Middle East, the two parties discussed, it is added, the recorded developments of the crisis in Ukraine and its repercussions on food security in the world. In this regard, the British Minister of State welcomed the efforts made by Algeria in the stabilization of the region and its initiatives aimed at promoting political solutions to the problems in its neighborhood and beyond.
Finally, this meeting was an opportunity to reaffirm the attachment of the two countries to the principles of the Charter of the United Nations and their commitment to promote the essential role of the United Nations in the maintenance of international peace and security.
