Larbi Merzouk Appointed as Secretary General of the Ministry of the Interior

Algiers, October 11, 2023 – In a significant development within the Algerian government, Mr. Brahim Merad, the Minister of the Interior, officially installed Mr. Larbi Merzouk as the new Secretary General of the Ministry of the Interior on Wednesday. This appointment, made by presidential decree on October 8, marks a change in leadership, as Mr. Merzouk takes the reins from Mr. Adil Hamimid, who had been in the position since November 2022.

Mr. Merzouk brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having previously served as a Wali (Governor) in several provinces, including Tlemcen, Tébessa, and Jijel. His extensive background in local administration has prepared him for this pivotal role in the Ministry of the Interior, and his appointment is seen as a strategic choice to further strengthen the ministry’s operations.
