Algiers, Algeria | June 8th, 2024 — The Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, Mokhtar Didouche, led the launch ceremony of the digital platform and application “Siyahatec” on Thursday in Algiers, signaling Algeria’s commitment to empowering youth in the tourism sector.
The initiative seeks to provide guidance and resources for young individuals interested in exploring employment opportunities within the tourism industry. During a conference dedicated to the platform’s launch, the Ministry unveiled its new strategy for local tourism development, which includes plans for tourism orientation in four pilot wilayas (Tlemcen, Sétif, Timimoune, and Djanet).
Organized by the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts in collaboration with the EU Delegation to Algeria, the conference is part of the “Jil Siyaha” program, aimed at fostering tourism sector development at the local level by engaging the private sector and youth through innovative tools.
Minister Didouche underscored the importance of the program in training and recruiting young individuals in the tourism industry. He highlighted the significance of developing tourism plans in the pilot wilayas to achieve these objectives.
Ambassador Thomas Eckert, Head of the EU Delegation to Algeria, emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships to support tourism activities and involve youth in this endeavor. He advocated for leveraging digitization and promoting investment in the tourism sector, particularly by supporting innovative projects and providing funding for sustainable development.
Said Meziane, representing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, commended efforts in the tourism sector to support youth participation in economic and sustainable development. He praised the state’s measures to facilitate investment and provide support for local and foreign investors, including streamlined procedures for obtaining tourist visas.
The launch of “Siyahatec” represents a significant stride towards empowering youth and promoting sustainable tourism development in Algeria. It aligns with broader efforts to enhance economic opportunities and engage young people in vital sectors of the economy.
